 by: Ms Maria Williams

Southend-on-Sea is Essex’s largest town and its close proximity to London makes it a popular tourist destination year after year. Better still, it is located in the south east of the country in an area widely regarded as the driest part of Britain.

The town is chock-full of interesting attractions which are aimed at all the family, whether you’re looking for local history, the arts and culture, or family-oriented activities to keep you occupied. Some of Southend-on-Sea’s most popular attractions are:

Southend Pier. Measuring in at 1.33 miles, Southend Pier is the longest pleasure pier in the entire world! Built in 1830, it has recently been refurbished and hosts an RNLI lifeboat station and an exclusive Pier train. Nowhere will you experience better sights of the beautiful coastline of the Thames Estuary.

Central Museum and Planetarium. If you’ve never visited a planetarium then now’s your chance; there are live presentations throughout the day. Meanwhile, the museum reveals plenty of secrets about Southend’s eventful history.

Jubilee Beach. This sand and shingle beach stretches from the Pier to Thorpe Bay; there are also regular pleasure boat trips available.

Take a Look at the Florida Panhandle - Part 1 - Tallahassee and Pensacola
 by: Tim Burton

To the East is Florida’s state capital, Tallahassee, with

its streets of graceful old Southern mansions. To the far

west lies Pensacola, which it is said, is the country’s

oldest settlement, dating from 1559.

Between these towns, is the potential for a whole range of

different holidays.

Tallahassee was named by the Apalachee Indians.

It is best enjoyed by traversing along the Canopy Roads.

Which as the name suggests, are thoroughfares in the middle

of town, where Spanish oak trees connect above the

streets forming a lush tunnel-like canopy.

Visit the New Capitol Building and go to the 22nd floor

observation level. There you can see magnificient views of

the city and beyond. You can also still see the Old Capitol

building with its red and white awnings. Many thousands of

students bring a real buzz to Tallahassee, culminating at

night, when the live music scene caters for a young crowd.

Pensacola is found in the far western tip of the Florida

Panhandle.

The Sights of Bangkok in Thailand
 by: Clint Leung

One of the most popular destinations in Asia to visit over recent years has been Thailand. This of course has also coincided with the booming popularity of Thai cuisine around the world. Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, is the main entry point where the vast majority of tourists to Thailand will use.

Bangkok is a very interesting city because in addition to the usual modern buildings of offices, hotels and shopping centers, there are also about 400 exotic Thai temples that seem to stick out among the urban landscape. There are Thai citizens on the streets dressed in modern business clothing as well as Buddhist monks in saffron robes. Yet this is what part of Thailand is. The traditional mixed in with the modern. In fact, it’s the traditional attractions that make Thailand so magical. The temples are sights that one just cannot see in the western world. They are like objects that popped out of an Asian fairy tale.

How To Drive in France and Not Get Lost
 by: Walt Ballenberger

“Come over to our house for dinner” said Tom, our new-found English friend. “It’s easy

from your hotel”. Thus began our first odyssey of driving on French roads. We were

visiting my company facility in Toulouse to make a decision about moving there for two

years. Needless to say, we got lost that night. Very lost. After realizing that I missed a

turn off the rocade, a freeway-like road in the city, I simply took the next exit to turn around and go back, as I would do at home. To my surprise, the exit road ran off in some

unknown direction, and there was no way to turn back! Later we did manage to find the

rocade again, but the exit we needed wasn’t accessible from that direction. The overhead

signs said we were heading toward Bordeaux. I didn’t know where I was, but a two hour

drive to Bordeaux that night was not an option. We seized upon signs for “Centre Ville”

“Find Out Why You Want to Bargain When You Travel in Foreign Countries!”

“Find Out Why You Want to Bargain When You Travel in Foreign Countries!”
 by: John Navata

The reality of traveling is that it is quite expensive relative to most people’s incomes. Unless you’re fairly well-off, you won’t be able to travel regularly throughout your life until you master some discount travel techniques. The art of discount travel is more then simply one quick trick, it is an overall approach that you can, and should, apply to every element of your trip. For example, you should explore charter flights and last minute deals, etc. to get the cheapest possible airfare. Once you arrive in a foreign country, you should meet some locals and establish where the cheap places to eat and stay are. Discount travel involves a lot of small things that when applied together result in big savings, and allow even those on moderate budgets to travel regularly and enjoyably.

An important concept to get used to if you want your money to last while you are traveling in a foreign country is that of bargaining. In most foreign countries, and especially those of the second world, barging plays a big part in everyday life, and you will find yourself continually overspending if you don’t participate in it.
