Paris hotels: How to reduce your risk of being disappointed

Paris hotels: How to reduce your risk of being disappointed
 by: Phil Chavanne

Travel forums are gold mines of information if you care to review the postings of enchanted and disgruntled travelers coming back from abroad.

As Senior Editor of http://www.Paris-Eiffel-Tower-News.com, I often peruse these forums to find out about the concerns voiced by fellow travelers headed to the ‘City of Lights’.

Among the postings which keep coming back, one stands out from the crowd: what does a 3-star rating really mean? Travelers tend to be confused by the many star-rating systems in use. I felt the subject called for an educated explanation.

The meaning of stars in the US

First of all, let’s be clear: there is absolutely no relationship whatsoever between the number of stars commercial travel sites award to hotels, and the hotel rating system in use in France.

The core business of commercial travel sites is to sell you hotel rooms, flight tickets, car rentals, and cruise packages. They purport to guide your choice by awarding stars to the products they peddle.

When you book a room on such sites, a significant portion of your money goes to the travel operator which presents the hotel - up to 50% on well-known websites.

Nova Scotia Campgrounds Offer A Peaceful Retreat: An Overview of Three Campgrounds in Nova Scotia
 by: C.S. Deam

Canadian campgrounds in the Maritime provinces are gems for the camping traveller. If they’re not directly on the ocean, or a bay, or another waterway, they’re usually conveniently close.

Both RV and tent campers love Nova Scotia’s scenery and campgrounds. For RV campers, however, the roads could be quite a bit less bumpy. But the scenery of tranquil sites are worth it. Make sure you call or contact these campgrounds before you make plans. Just as campgrounds in the northern United States often close for the winter, not all Canadian Maritimes campgrounds will be open during their mild winters.

** King Neptune Campground is convenient to Peggy’s Cove. (It’s street address is 8536 Peggy’s Cove Road, Indian Harbour). This easy-to-find campground is a scenic oceanside campground with many, many campsites having open views of the ocean. Plus if you’re daring, there’s ocean swimming.

Onsite you’ll find firerings, a pay phone, washrooms with flush toilets and running-water sinks, and pay showers. There are about 65 overnight sites, some electrical. Prices were around $16 Canadian. Phone: 902-823-2582

Practical Prince Edwards Island Campgrounds: An Overview of Two PEI Campgrounds
 by: C.S. Deam

Not all canadian campgrounds in the Maritime provinces have lush forests and rugged mountain-like surroundings as on Cape Breton Island. Although conveniently close to the ocean, these two Prince Edward Island campgrounds are more practical campgrounds, having modern amenities, but fewer luxuries than other campgrounds.

The scenery at or near these tranquil sites are worth it. Make sure you call or contact these campgrounds before you make plans. Just as campgrounds in the northern United States often close for the winter, not all Canadian Maritimes campgrounds will be open during their mild winters.

** Just 1.5 Km east of the Conderation Bridge on the TransCanada Hwy (Rte 1) in Prince Edward Island you’ll find the family-run Sun ‘n’ Shade Campground

It’s adjacent to the Confederation Trail which pleases travellers who want to take advantage of the walking/bicycling on the trail, and it’s close to beautiful beaches.

The campground accommodates several dozen tents, trailers, and big RVs, with both open and shaded sites, some of which are pull-thrus with 20-30 amp electrical service, and fire-pits. Onsite you’ll find free hot showers, laundry, dumping station, pay phone, cable, a camp store with ice.

Sydney Beaches for Fun in the Sun

Sydney Beaches for Fun in the Sun
 by: Peter Watson

Whether you’re up for a Crocodile Dundee adventure or you’d just like a taste of the Australian sun, the beaches in and around Sydney can offer you all that and more. Being in the southern hemisphere, Australia’s seasons are reversed from those in Europe, North American, and much of Asia, so if you’re looking for good beach weather, make sure to travel some time from September to May - that is, spring to autumn. The Sydney shoreline encompasses over 200 miles of white sandy beaches, exhibiting a variety of atmospheres from cosmopolitan Bondi Beach to majestic Cronulla.

For one Sydney beach, the name says it all - located at Sydney’s northernmost tip on an extension of land ending at Barrenjoey Head, Palm Beach lies with the Pacific Ocean to the east side and the Bay to the west. Before checking out the golden sand, take a quick tour of the opulent mansions of millionaires from the art and film industries - many live on this small spit of land.

Hawaii (The Big Island) - A City Guide

Hawaii (The Big Island) - A City Guide
 by: Nivedita Balamurugan

Introduction

There’s no place on earth quite like this handful of sun-drenched, mid-Pacific islands. The Hawaii of South Seas literature and Hollywood films really does exist. Here one will find palm-fringed blue lagoons, lush rainforests, hidden gardens, cascading waterfalls, wild rivers running through rugged canyons, and soaring volcanoes. And those beaches — gold, red, black, and even green sands caressed by endless surf - a perfect place for spending holidays.

History

After a series of battles that ended in 1795 and peaceful cession of the island of Kauai in 1810, the Hawaiian Islands were united for the first time under a single ruler who would become known as King Kamehameha the Great. He established the House of Kamehameha, a dynasty that ruled over the kingdom until 1872. One of the most important events during those years was the suppression of the Hawaii Catholic Church. The Newlands Resolution was passed on July 7, 1898, formally annexing Hawaii as a United States territory. In 1900, it was granted self-governance and retained Iolani Palace as the territorial capitol building. In March 1959, both houses of Congress passed the Admission Act and U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed it into law. On June 27 of that year, a plebiscite was held asking residents of Hawaii to vote on accepting the statehood bill. After statehood, Hawaii quickly became a modern state with a construction boom and rapidly growing economy.

Discount Barbados Vacation

Discount Barbados Vacation
 by: Noel Warnham

The words Barbados and discount would not normally appear in the same sentence, however, if you are not incredibly wealthy or just don’t fancy spending several thousand per person on your next vacation, Barbados may still be within reach, and at a discount.

Your first consideration will be when to go high season should obviously be avoided. If you are serious about saving money you will also want to try and pin down a deal on your flight to Barbados. Your saving here will probably be more significant the further you are traveling (sounds obvious). Someone flying from Europe may have more to gain than someone flying from Florida.

Going off-season will discount your vacation overall, but your largest single saving will probably be dependent on the hotel you choose. Staying at a cheaper hotel does not mean you have to have a miserable time, you can still wine and dine at the most fancy restaurants on the island (perhaps more so with the money you saved) and many of the luxury resort facilities will still be open to you.
